Family Bike Rides

Along with Hackney Family Cycling, CarryMe Bikes has been helping to run short, fun bike rides suitable for all the family – even the tiniest tots.

Using cargobike riders to help marshall the rides, and offering free hire of cargobikes for those with babies and small children, we usually start from London Fields in Hackney (by the Lido swimming pool) and ride mainly along back streets, quiet roads and parks to another local park where we have a picnic (if the weather is kind enough!). If you miss out on our free hires, you can always pay our low-cost fee for regular hire.

The aim is to provide a safe environment where even the smallest children on balance bikes can be shepherded within a group of other cyclists, boosting the skills and confidence of families to take to the road on bikes.

With funding from Cycling Grants London granted in Autumn 2016, Hackney Family Cycling and CarryMe Bikes are now jointly running a programme of monthly rides. These are usually held just after Family Cycling Library which is linked in the project: items of kit that families can use to travel by bike such as trailers and child seats, loaned out to co-incide with the Family Bike Rides. The aim is for families to try out the kit, join a ride, gain knowledge and experience and ride as a family!
